Physical Therapy Graduate Programs
|
While there are a large number of physical therapy graduate programs to choose from in the United States, being careful to choose one that is fully accredited is well worth the energy. Most of the licensing boards require that your degree be issued by one of the over 250 accredited programs. Without that accreditation, your degree will be wasted on the hours of study time spent trying to get it.
This is not a small task. Weeding through the large number of options out there can be a job all on its own. Finding the right program is essential before you start the hard work it will take to get where you want to be in the physical therapy profession. Start your adventure by interviewing local professionals in the field. Ask them questions about what qualifications they are looking for in new physical therapists and what type of education they desire for a new hire. This will give you some terrific information to base your search for a physical therapy program on. Once you have an idea of what is expected, think next about the financing of the matter. How do you plan to finance the new venture in education? That is not to say you should run out and start applying for grants and loans left and right. These applications should be done after you have settled on a program. This having been said, there are a large number of grants and scholarships that are only available to students of local area programs. This clearly will have a bearing on your choice of school. Once you have vetted out the best available funding sources, it is time to start weeding through the schools. So far you have eliminated all of the schools that are not accredited and potentially all of the schools that would limit your options in financial assistance. That should leave you with a fairly limited list of options. From here you can base your choice on whether you intend to take courses online or if you are going to attend classes on site. This again will limit your choices. Now your choice is simply that, a matter of choice. The school that gives you the best feeling should be your choice at this point. Be prepared, and do the research and you will be on your way to physical therapy. |
